Beaches, Buddhists & Bananas

Two weeks ago I excitedly packed my bags, eagerly put on my ‘out of office’ and jetted off to the sunny and serene Sri Lanka. There I embraced the culture, weather and, of course, the food.

Perhaps an unusual choice, but Sri Lanka was the chosen destination because of the wide variety of things it has to offer.

The culture:

From 12th Century ruins;

to Buddhist temples.

The nature:

From picturesque water lilles;

The wildlife:

to baby turtles.

The beaches:

to sunset.

Finally, the food:

Curry and rice is the staple dish in Sri Lanka – it’s even eaten for breakfast! The curries are delicious and full of flavour but certainly not for the fainthearted due to a serious amount of spice. The abundance of onion and garlic used often made it difficult to stay entirely FODMAP-free. Luckily, there was always plenty of fresh fruit on offer including:

Seriously spiky lychees;

Red bananas;

and enough pineapple to last a lifetime (in every shape and form).

If anyone’s considering going to Sri Lanka, or even if you’re not, go! I couldn’t recommend it more. It may be freezing back in London and I may be starting work tomorrow, but I’m happy to be back blogging!

  1. Looks amazing, fantastic photos.
    Sri Lanka isn’t a place I had considered before, but I certainly will next time we’re thinking of holidays. It looks and sounds fantastic.
